The five subspecies of Golden Eagles can be found over much of the Northern Hemisphere. Effective hunters, they prefer areas providing strong updrafts to best support their aerial skills. Pair mate for life and hunt cooperatively. Though a wild eagle wouldn't normally attack such large prey, female Berkut Golden Eagles weighting upwards of 15 to 20 pounds are trained to hunt wolves and deer in parts of Eurasia.
