Lobaria pulmonaria

Lobaria pulmonaria
is a large epiphytic lichen. It is bound to trees in a well-preserved natural forests, unaffected by air pollution. It is most often found on beeches (e.g. in the Biogradska Gora in Montenegro, where it is very common). It became extinct in the Czech Republic, except the Bohemian Forest and the Upper Palantine Forest. The following photographs show lobaria pulmonaria on the bark of old beeches in natural beech forests, hidden in karst sinkholes on the plateau of the Biokovo mountain range in Croatia.
