Mountain coral

Mountain coral (Porites lutea) - up to 4 m across. Calyces tiny; forms microatolls on reef flats or domes 5 to 7 m high in deeper water; pale green to lavender or brown.

Biology: reef flats and lagoon and seaward reefs to at least 18m. Among the most shoreward of corals, dominant on many reef flats.

Range: Red Sea to Central America
