Grey Partridge

We had a chance to observe grey partridge (Perdix perdix) directly from an office located in industrial zone Cernovicka terasa in Brno city. There were many factories built on former meadows and fields during last few years, therefore the grey patridges lost their natural refuge. It is an interesting finding, how grey patridges reacted to such significant change of the landscape. They almost fully lost their natural fear of a man. Formerly numerous grey patridge is now endangered species in the Czech Republic.

Lucanus cervus

Lucanus cervus (Lucanus cervus) is the biggest beatle of Europe. It is an endangered species which is protected by The Berne Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats. Adult males, unlike females, are larger and have much larger mandibles (sexual dimorphism). Its typical habitat are broad-leaved trees (mainly oak) and dead trunks. The pictures below shows the beatle, which we have found during summer season 2011 in Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou town.
